What is chatMKG?

chatMKG is an independent news publication, run by local, citizen journalists. We skip the the click-bait stories you'll find on other news sites and put our efforts toward investigating and reporting on important topics that genuinely affect the lives of people in West Michigan. We are based in Muskegon, a growing West Michigan city, that is quickly becoming the lakeshore's metropolitan hub.

Who can be a citizen journalist?

Literally anyone! Imagine you're near the scene of a house fire and you record a video to post online so your community can be informed of the event. This is an example of citizen journalism. You are reporting on an important event that legacy media may have overlooked or was unable to cover in a timely fashion. This type of journalism helps residents stay informed. Citizen journalists also help fill the gaps left by the lack of coverage from legacy media. Most of West Michigan's legacy media publications are owned by large, outsider corporations that take little interest in covering local stories in depth. Citizen journalists are here to keep our community informed!

Can I write a story or share an informative video?

Absolutely! We encourage you to become a citizen journalist; the editorial staff at chatMKG will consider any and all story submissions sent to staff@chatMKG.com. Send us an email and we'll get back to you ASAP! Thanks for your interest in helping to inform our community.

I'm already reporting the news professionally, can I join chatMKG as a staff writer?

If you like what we're doing here and think chatMKG might be the right publication to host your work, please email staff@chatMKG.com for consideration. Please include links to your work and any background information you deem relevant.

Can a local business or organization request chatMKG coverage for an event?

Yes! We are here to cover local stories and would be happy to consider yours. Please email details to staff@chatMKG.com and one of our staff writers will be in touch. Thank you.

I found an inaccuracy in a story published on chatMKG. What should I do?

Please email staff@chatMKG.com with "retraction" as the subject line. In the body of your email, include the web-link to the story in question and a detailed description of the element you believe to be inaccurate.
